40k Battle Report: 2000 Khorne Daemonkin Vs Dark Eldar


Second battle report on this blog. Khorne Daemonkin Vs Dark Eldar. It's a 2000 points with 2 players each side.

Terrain:

We have 2 Ruins on the right, 2 towers (impassible) on the left, Some walls and forest. The rocks are just terrain and gives a 5+ cover save.
We are playing Cleanse and Control, and the compass represent objectives.

Deployment:

For Dark Eldar we have: Raider, 5 Wyches, Succubus in front (but not together), 9 Reavers and 6 Reavers. Everything else is in reserve.
And for Khorne: Maulerfiend, DP, Bikes, Bikes, Rhino, 5 Possessed, 8 Berzerkers, 8 Berzerkers, Soulgrinder Maulerfiend and the Juggerlord with the dogs after scouts. Cultists are in reserve.

Khorne Daemonkin steal the initiative!!

Khorne Turn 1:


Blood Tithe: Max: 1 Me: 0

Objectives: Recon, Assassinate and Secure Number 4 (the one on our wall).

Movement:  Everything moves up except the Soulgrinder that stays back to take objective number 4.

Shooting: Boltguns puts one HP on the raider. And soulgrinder kills a Wyche. I could have shoot the Succubus, but my colleague wanted to kill her in CC.

Combat: Nothing is in range.

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 0
Khorne: 1 (Secure 4)

Dark Eldar Turn 1:

Objectives: Recon, Ascendancy and Secure 4.

Movement: Kabalite Warriors jump out of the Raider. 9 Reavers come closer to my bikes and the 6 Reavers to my dogs. Raider moves away from my bikes while the Wyches moves up.

Shooting: Kabalites Warriors put a few wounds on the DP, 9 Reavers shoot the bike and kill 2, while the 6 Reavers shoot the dogs killing one.

Combat: The Reavers do the jump move to try to go away.

Dark Eldar: 1 (Recon)
Khorne: 1 

Khorne Turn 2:

Blood Tithe: Max: 2 Me: 0

Objectives: Recon, Assassinate and Secure Number 3 (the one close to the tower on our side).

Movement:  Cultist arrive from reserve, Mine will stay back close to Objective Number 4, while Max's will run for the Objective Number 3. The Dogs, Bikes, DP and Maulerfiends get into position for some charge this turn.

Shooting: Not a lot to shoot, just the Soulgrinder, and he puts a HP on the Raider. Cultist run far enough to get Objective 3.

Combat: Dogs and Juggerlord charge the 6 Reavers killing 5 of them (we made a mistake here, we thought Reavers had a 3+ save). The lonely Reaver stay and "Hit and Run". The 2 units of Bikes charge the 4 Wyches, killing them (he win the challenge) giving us, first blood and Assassinate. I loose 2 Bikes in the process but leaving my squad to 1 Champion and the other squad with only the melta alive, they reform to create a wall. The DP and Maulerfiend charge the Kabalite Warriors (he refuse the challenge) killing 7. The 3 left flee.

The score is:

Khorne: 5 (Secure 3, Assassinate, Recon and First Blood)

Dark Eldar Turn 2:


Objectives: Ascendancy, Secure 4 and I don't remember the last one.

Movement:  Everything comes from reserve except the Dark Artisan formation. Raider with Wyches and Succubus on the bottom. Other Raider with Wyches deviate to the left. And the Raider with Wracks come in the middle. Razorwing also comes in and face my Juggerlord. The 3 Kabalites Warriors rally and the Reavers shuffle around in front of my Dogs.

Shooting: All the Reavers and the Razorwing shoot my Juggerlord unit leaving 1 dog alive with the lord. The 3 Kabalites Warriors kills the lonely Bike Champion. The Wracks finish the last 2 wounds on the DP and the Wyches on the bottom kill 7 Cultists leaving the Champion alive and not fleeing.

Combat: The 2 Reavers squad charge the remaining of the Lord unit. Killing them with all the "Hammer of Wrath" (we play it wrong, normally only the Reavers in contact will have been able to do the "Hammer of Wrath", but all of them did, even the one in the back). They reform behind the wall after.

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 3 (Warlord Kill x2)
Khorne: 5 

Khorne Turn 3:

Blood Tithe: Max: 5  Me: 6

Objectives: Hold the Line, Hungry for Glory and I forgot the last one.

Movement:  Max use his 5 Blood Tithe to summon Bloodletters that misshape 3 and appear on the far right (forgot to put them on this picture) and he also give +1 Attack to his Slaughtercult. I keep mine for next turn. The 2 Maulerfiends get into position to charge the Raiders. Possessed and the 1 unit of Berzerkers come closer to the Warcks. Soulgrinder moves up and the Rhino moves back dropping the CSM as far as he can. The lonely Cultist Champion moves closer to  the Wyches.

Shooting: Soulgrinder does nothing to the flyer. But the CSM kill 8 Wyches and put a wound on the Succubus.

Combat: Cultists Champion charges the Succubus and dies. Possessed and Berzerkers charge the Wracks and wipe them out (the Possessed gets +1 Attacks and +1 Initiative). The other unit of Berzerkers fail their charge against the Reavers. My Mauerfiend finish the Raider and Max's Maulerfiend immobilize the other one leaving 1 HP on it.

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 3 
Khorne: 6 (Hungry for Glory)

Dark Eldar Turn 3:


Objectives: Ascendancy, Secure 5 and Secure 2.

Movement: Succubus on the top moves in front of the Berzerkers squad. The 9 Reavers do the same. Wyches moves up. Succubus and the last Wyche on the bottom prepare a charge against the CSM. Razorwing fly out of the table.

Shooting: 2 Possessed die, and a few Berzekers on the right.

Combat: The Succubus and the last Wyche die from over watch. The Succubus charges the remaining berzerkers, kills a few but dies (giving us one Warlord kill). Reavers do the Jump Moves behind the tower.

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 4 (Secure 5)
Khorne: 7 (Warlord Kill) 

Khorne Turn 4:

Blood Tithe: Max: 5  Me: 8

Objectives: Hold the Line, Altar of Core and Domination.

Movement:  Max use his 5 Blood Tithe to summon Hounds and he also give Feel no Pain to his Slaughtercult. I use mine to summon a Bloodthirster. Maulerfiends move up to try a charge against the Reavers. CSM moves up to try and kill the Raider that stop us from having Hold the Line. The bloodletters on the right form a line to be 12" away from my table edge. The 2 Berzerkers and Possessed just move to get the Wyches. The others Berzerkers moves up.

Shooting: Soulgrinder finish the Raider. That's it. The Bloodthirster runs.

Combat: 3 Reavers die from the 2 Maulerfiends. They "Hit and Run".

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 4 
Khorne: 7 

Dark Eldar Turn 4:

Objectives: Ascendancy, Secure 2...

Movement: Dark Artisan formation arrive close to the Berzerkers. Reavers move to shoot the Maulerfiends. Wyches prepare to charge the newly summoned Hounds. Razorwing comes in.

Shooting: Reavers finish my Maulerfiend (he took a wound before) and all the others Dark Lance fire the other Maulerfiend doing 2 HP. The Dark Artisan formation fire at the Berzerkers killing a lot. And the 3 remaining Kabalite Warriors kill a Berzerkers.

Combat: Wyches does one wound on the Hounds.

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 4 
Khorne: 7 

Khorne Turn 5:

Blood Tithe: Max: 1  Me: 2

Objectives: Hold the Line, Altar of Core and Domination.

Movement:  Bloodthirster is too far away to charge, so he start flying to take down the flyer. Maulerfiend moves to try to charge the Wyches and get Altar of Core.

Shooting: Bloodthirster does nothing to the flyer. Soulgrinder use the flamer against the Reavers killing a few.

Combat: Maulerfiend and Hounds don't do enough against the Wyches. The lonely berzerker charge the Reavers and dies.

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 4 
Khorne: 8 (Hold the Line)

Dark Eldar Turn 5:

Objectives: Ascendency, Secure 2...

Movement:  Not to much movement. Flyer fly, Dark Artisan formation wants to go for the 2 Berzerkers.

Shooting: The flyer take out the Maulerfiend with 1 shoot.

Combat: Just 2 Wyches remain in combat on the left. And only 1 Berzerker dies from the Dark Artisan formation

The score is:
Dark Eldar: 4 
Khorne: 8 (Hold the Line)

End of the game:

It's a victory for Khorne. Writing this Battle Report, I find a few mistake we made during the game. First, Reavers are 5+ armour save, Baleflamer is S6 AP4. The Soulgrinder should have move up at the beginning to flame this Reavers and he was not really good against the flyer.
The Summon Bloodthirster did nothing. If we had another turn maybe. I like the Slaughtercult, Turn 4 I was 1 point away to summon a DP, and I wanted one!

Anyway, it was a really fun game with nice opponent. I hope to do another like this soon.
